Computers donated by Holland America Line
Community Partners came to the rescue of a tired computer lab. Last summer we applied for a mini grant from Holland America Line and Princess Cruises, to replace three computers in our computer lab with new machines. We were very fortunate to receive a gift from Holland America Line and Princess Cruises.
We went online and researched and researched until we found just the machines we needed. We quickly upgraded our machines to three new up-to-date Dell computers with monitors and speakers. These machines come with Windows 7 pro version with a free upgrade to Windows 10 if we deem it necessary. Our old computers were still using Windows XP, can you believe it. They were antiquated to say the least. We have been getting by with them for years. Needless to say, we were in there every day working on those old machines, babying them, cajoling them, everything we could do to keep them operational. There is no need for that any longer.
We now have the ability to give classes on these machines. We are going to set up regular classes on Basic computing, email, browsing the World Wide Web, Social Media, and what ever there is a demand for. The regulars that come in almost every day have really been singing their praises.
We also received a gift from the Fairbanks Lutheran Church Women’s, for some new desks for the room, and we put in some additional monies to buy 4 new office chairs. The Lab is all set up now with three new computer stations, and an instructor station. We would like to take a moment and say Thank You to Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, and The Fairbanks Lutheran Women’s from all the Staff at the Fairbanks Senior Center.
