Helping Hands Home Modifications Program
Helping Hands Home Modifications
Helping to make homes safer and more accessible!
We focus on small, simple projects that improve access, health, and safety. It helps keep people living at home and “Aging In Place”.
Projects we can do:
– Accessibility modifications: Ramps, stairs, steps, handrails, door levers, and locks
– Health modifications: Toilet adjustments, height-adjustable hand-held showerheads, and faucets repaired or replaced
– Safety modifications: Grab bar installations, safety and security lighting, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, and hazards or obstacles removed
Projects we cannot do:
Routine home maintenance or repairs, work requiring high ladders or heavy lifting, emergency projects and jobs requiring building permits, licensed electricians or plumbers
If you or someone you know needs home modifications like these, contact us by calling 907-457-4263 or by downloading our Service Request Form.
In addition to home modifications, we also offer other fee-based services:
– Households needing a temporary accessible entrance can use our Rent-A-Ramp service until a permanent ramp is built or access needs change.
– Landlords and property managers can contact us for facility audits and recommendations on adapting rentals for older adult tenants who need home modifications.

Helping Homebound Heroes Grant Program
Meals on Wheels America (MOWA) is in more than one million homes daily working to address the issues that seniors face in their homes: hunger, isolation, and accessibility.
Through a partnership with The Home Depot Foundation, the MOWA Helping Homebound Heroes Grant Program addresses the critical home repair and modification needs of U.S. military veterans.
In 2020 the Fairbanks Senior Center’s Helping Hands Home Modification Program was generously awarded the Helping Homebound Heroes Grant to help our local Senior Veterans with home modifications to help our heroes age safely at home.
We are honored to have been able to give back to these amazing heroes.
